Content as a Socio-Economic Structure

Taking a look at socio-economic structure's there are many variables that are a product of that term. These variables include; occupation, income, wealth, and education. Van Dijck would examine how the content of Vine influences these different variables.

From an occupational standpoint, Vine may be the primary occupation of that user due to popularity/prominence on Vine, or the potential income that is obtained through making Vines. Many of the users have a normal occupation outside of Vine, but simply create Vines because it is something they enjoy, or can be seen as a secondary source of income for that user.

The income from Vine is most likely derived from other companies or businesses, given the fact that Vine acts simply as a platform to share information and does not provide any type of monetary payment to even its most popular curator. The income may derive from selling or advertising a product or service within the 6 second clip. The income that may derive from these companies also have the possibility to change the life of the user, as they can go from making no money to making a lot of money through endorsements or partnerships with other companies.

The content of a Vine can be affected by the wealth of its user, as this gives them the creative freedom that other users may not have access to. They may have access to better lighting, or the ability to afford other equipment that can help with the production of the Vine.

The age of Vine users can vary due to the fact that it is a free app on the iTunes App Store, or Google Play which means that any person that has a mobile phone or smartphone has the ability the download application, which means the education of it's users can be any level. It is evident that there are users who range from grade school all the way up to the university level and beyond.
